Panchagarh, Dec 30, 2024 (BSS) - Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials here called for farming Buckwheat enormously for its health and economic prospects.

DAE Deputy Director Md Abdul Matin said buckwheat cultivation doesn't need fertilizer as it is harvested within 80 or 85 days after sowing seeds.

The agriculture expert has said it has various medicinal benefits to prevent heart disease, diabetes and other female diseases as the best honey can be produced from buckwheat flowers.

Buckwheat is touted as the royal food in Japan and other countries in the world as Buckwheat rice has huge demand in Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Buckwheat is also being cultivated in Poland, Romania, Japan, Korea, France, India and America.

Abdul Matin said a good amount of foreign currency can be earned by exporting buckwheat rice and honey to different countries where it has highly demand.

In the past buckwheat cultivation was popular among farmers, officials said, adding, but, now its farming shrinks as buckwheat was cultivated on just two hectares of land this year.

The agriculture officers urged the farmers to cultivate buckwheat as it can earn foreign currency.
