CUMILLA, Dec 31, 2024 (BSS) - Two minor girls drowned in a pond in Purbapara 
under Chandina upazila of the district today.

The deceased were three-year old Samia Akhter and her younger sister 18-month 
old Hamida Akhter, daughters of Sujan Mia, a resident of Maijkhar village of 
the upazila.

Samia and Hamida fell into a pond near their house while playing beside it 
around 10 am and drowned, family sources said.

Locals and family members recovered their floating bodies and sent those to 
Chandina Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station Md. Nazmul Huda confirmed 
the matter and said the bodies were handed over to their family.
