KCC to recycle 375 tonnes of wastes daily

KHULNA, Jan  9, 2025 (BSS) - Upon successful implementation of its project by June next, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will generate diesel, electricity and compost fertilizer through recycling 375 tonnes of wastes daily

Under the 'Second Urban Region Development' project, a waste management plant is being established at Shalua landfill at a cost of Taka 55 crore 

Already, 53 percent of the works were completed and the entire work is expected to be completed by June next year.
 
The Government of Bangladesh and Asian Development Bank (ADB) are jointly extending financial support for implementing the project.

KCC authority revealed this while addressing a project-review meeting at the conference hall of Divisional Commissioner here on Wednesday . 

With Divisional Commissioner and KCC Administrator Firoj Sarkerin the chair, the meeting was attended and addressed, among others, by KCC Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Waste Management Officer Engineer Abdul Aziz, Project Director Hamidul Haque and Waste Concern Consultant Abu Hasnat Maksud. 

Speaking on the occasion Firoj Sarker termed the proper waste management as a big challenge but it's very important for ensuring a healthy environment.

He, however, said the project is being implemented to make the waste management process modernized and urged all concerned to implement the project successfully.
