Shaheed Abu Sayeed Foundation distributes blankets in Gangachara

RANGPUR, Jan 13, 2025 (BSS) - Shaheed Abu Sayeed Foundation (SASF) distributed blankets among the cold-hit people at Kolkond union parishad premises in Gangachara upazila here today. 
 
Gangachara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmudul Hasan Mridha distributed the blankets among 200 helpless cold-stricken people of different riverine chars areas of the upazila as the chief guest. 
 
SASF General Secretary and Abu Sayeed's brother Md Abu Hossain presided over the function.
 
Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Sajibul Karim, Joint Secretary of SASF Md Rezaul Karim, its Finance Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam and Executive Member Md Shafiul Alam, local Ward Members Shariful and Humayun Kabir Lal were present
 
Abu Hossain, General Secretary of SASF, told BSS that the blanket distribution programme will continue in the future to mitigate the suffering of the poor in the northern region. 
 
Earlier, SASF distributed 250 blankets among cold-hit people at Kuthipara Government Primary School ground in Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur on January 9 and 500 blankets at Haribhasha Girls' High School ground in Panchagarh on January 4.
 
In addition, the organisation distributed 1,000 blankets among 1,000 cold-hit people at Jafarpara High School ground in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur on January 2. 
 
"On December 8 last year, we distributed Taka two lakh and 10 thousand to 210 orphans and extremely poor and needy people of the area with Taka 1,000 each," Abu Hossain added.
 
The SASF, named after Abu Sayeed, was established on December 8 as a non-profit organization at Babanpur village in Pirganj upazila for continuing humanitarian services and social development activities of Abu Sayeed. 
 
Abu Sayeed, a meritorious student of Begum Rokeya University embraced martyrdom in police firing during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Rangpur city on July 16. 
 
Abu Sayeed's martyrdom quickly transformed the anti-discrimination student-public movement into a mass uprising, forcing the then fascist former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to flee the country.
