KHULNA, Jan 22, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a seminar unanimously mentioned that capacity building of the returning migrants can be the crucial means of their family and social integration together with transforming them into social contributors.

Terming the migrants as powerful remittance-earning fighters they viewed that they deserved the right to get capacity-building training and other need-based support.

On behalf of the 'Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE)' project, the Wage Earners Welfare Board organized the project introductory seminar at the office conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Tuesday. 

 RAISE Project Director Dr Mahbub-Ul Karim addressed the seminar as chief guest with DC Muhammad Saiful Islam in the chair.

Task Team Leader Anika Rahman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Nari Sramik Kendra (BNSK) Sumaiya Islam, Additional DCs Bitan Kumar Mondal and Nurul Hai Muhammad Anas and Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Selim Reza also addressed the meeting.

During his multimedia presentation, Fasiul Alam, Assistant Director of Khulna Welfare Centre, talked about the achievements of the wage earners welfare board and Khulna Welfare Centre. He also illustrated the aims and objectives of the RAISE project.

Ultimate goal of the project is to enhance the capacities and productivity of youth and young micro-entrepreneurs in the informal sector by developing their capacities and providing inclusive finance.

Engaging youth from low-income households in sustainable employment through apprenticeship programs is an allied objective of the project.

In his remarks, Dr Mahbub-Ul Karim said the returning migrants are provided with psycho-social and economic suggestions for their integration under the project.

They are also being given technical and economic support for generating scopes of employment.

Each of the selected returning migrants is being given Taka 13,500 in cash with a competent certificate. Under the project, an enriched database of the returning is being prepared, he added.
