RANGPUR, Feb 2, 2025 (BSS) - Officials and experts at a seminar here today
emphasized the need to ensure safe food and nutrition for all citizens to
build a healthy and talented nation and achieve the sustainable development
goals.

They viewed this at the seminar on "Safe Food" organised by Bangladesh Food
Safety Authority (BFSA) in association with the district administration at

Day-2025.

Additional District Magistrate Md Habibul Hasan Rumi attended the seminar as
the chief guest while Additional Superintendent of Police Md Joynal Abedin
and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Md Ruhul Amin were present as special guests on
the occasion.

District Food Safety Officer Md Lokman Hossain delivered the welcome address
in the event narrating the importance of ensuring safe food for all people
and different steps taken by the government towards the directions.

The Deputy Civil Surgeon presented the keynote speech on safe food in the
seminar.

The speakers put emphasis on ensuring strict enforcement of the "Safe Food
Act 2013" and Consumers' Right Protection Act, 2009 to ensure rights of
consumers to safe food free from adulteration, poisoning and contamination.

They especially stressed on improving public health indexes by ensuring
availability of safe food and eliminating marketing of unsafe food to save
people from cancer, kidney diseases and disability.

They also suggested establishing modern technology-based food management
systems to ensure production, marketing and consumption of safer food.

The chief guest said that people can stay healthy if they consume pollution-
free food, pure water and fresh air. Preventing food pollution is a difficult
task. It is not possible to prevent food pollution by enforcing laws alone.

"Public awareness is needed to prevent food pollution," he said, adding that
people should come out of the habit of adulterating food and maintain
cleanliness while preparing food.

Consumers are becoming more aware of their rights to getting safe and pure
food and already started reaping enormous benefits from enforcement of the
related acts towards the direction.

He urged both traders and common consumers to become aware of severe
consequences of marketing and consumption of adulterated and unsafe food.

The district level officials, NGO executives, representatives of food
producing companies, enterprises and journalists attended the seminar, among
others.
