One held with a touchstone Vishnu idol in Birganj

RANGPUR, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 in a drive
seized a black stone Vishnu idol worth Taka 3.95 crore and arrested an
assumed smuggler from Arjunahar village in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur
district.
 
A press release signed here on Wednesday by RAB-13 Senior Assistant Director
(Media) Flight Lieutenant Md Saifullah Nayeem said.
 
"On a tip off, an operational team of the Crime Prevention Company-2 of RAB-
13's Nilphamari camp conducted a raid at the village and arrested Md Akkas
Ali, 52, son of late Abed Ali of nearby Shatagram village at 10:15 pm on
Tuesday," the release said.
 
As per confession of the detainee, the elite force dug the soil in Arjunahar
village and seized a black-colored touchstone Vishnu idol measuring 66 inches
long and 30 inches wide and weighing 395 kg and worth about Taka 3.95 crore,
along with a motorcycle.
 
During the drive, another accused managed to escape.
 
During the initial interrogation, the arrested accused said that the duo have
been involved in idol smuggling for a long time, avoiding the eyes of the law
enforcement agencies.
 
"After filing a case under Section 25B (1)(A) of the Special Powers Act,
1974, the elite force handed over the arrested persons to Birganj police
station in Dinajpur district," the release added.
