RAJSHAHI, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - The National Public Library Day-2025 was observed in Rajshahi in a befitting manner today with the call of enlightening people after the best uses of public libraries.
Marking the day, the divisional public library and district administration jointly organised a discussion in the office conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC).
"Samriddha Hok Granthagar, Ai Aamader Angiker" was the main theme of the day this year.
DC Afiya Akhter and Additional DC Tuktuk Talukder addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with assistant director of the divisional public library Md Roknuzzaman in the chair.
Librarian of Rajshahi College Abdullah Al Bashir, Librarian of Rajshahi Government City College Waheduzzaman Sagar and local unit leader of Bangladesh Non-government Librarian Council Nurun Nabi Mridha also spoke on the occasion.
Highlighting the significance of the day the discussants unanimously said the role of the library is immense towards building a knowledgeable and enlightened society.
They added that books always make people beautiful, bright and prosperous.
Only the people enriched with a prosperous heart can build bright Bangladesh.
DC Afiya Akhter said libraries play a fundamental role in developed society not only for access to information but also as a centre for all types of entertainment. Information can be retrieved easily online.
"We must have public libraries in every union and these libraries will be serving as the bridge between those who are well-informed about access to information and those who aren't," he added.
The guests also distributed prizes among winners of different competitions arranged on the occasion.
Earlier, they opened the day by releasing balloons and festoons in the sky and brought out a rally to mark the day.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) observed the day in its campus in a befitting manner today.
In addition to taking out a rally, the technological varsity held a discussion at its conference hall.
Vice-chancellor Prof Abdur Razzaque, former vice-chancellor Prof Sazzad Hossain, Students Welfare Director Prof Rabiul Islam Sarker, Research and Extension Director Prof Abdul Khaleque, Registrar Arif Ahmed Chowdhury and Librarian Mahbubul Alam addressed the discussion.
