PABNA, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - Police today arrested the president of Sujanagar Upazila Awami League, who had earlier been snatched from their custody during an attack on a police van in the district."
On a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive at Gajnar Beel of the Mathurapur area under Bhaina union of the upazila and arrested Awami League leader Abdul Wahab with two of his chohorts from a house around 7 am, said Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Sujanagar Police Station.
Earlier, 11 others were arrested in connection with the attack on the police vehicle, he added.
Wahab, also a former chairman of Sujanagar Upazila Parishad and ex-mayor of Sujanagar Municipality, had been absconding in a case filed over an attack on students during student-led mass uprising.
On February 2, police arrested him from in front of Mathurapur High School in Sujanagar municipality.
Shortly after his arrest, Awami League activists attacked the police vehicle chanting "Joy Bangla" slogans, and snatched Wahab from the custody of the law enforcers.
