RANGPUR, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Moulana Abdul Halim has said that the nation will not accept any excuse to delay trial of the killers of martyrs of July-August uprising.

“Many talk about reforms and elections too. But is it right to demand elections only by keeping the demands of reforms and justice as number three?” We strongly demand that the interim government must carry out all three tasks, reforms, justice and elections,” he said.

Maulana Abdul Halim was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by Rangpur Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium today to unveil cover of the memorial book titled "Martyrs of the 2nd Independence" containing information about the blood-soaked martyrs of the July-August uprising.

At the same time, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman spoke virtually from the event organized at the National Press Club in Dhaka to unveil the cover of the memorial book titled "Martyrs of the 2nd Independence".

Moulana Abdul Halim said, "Our sisters, widows should see that the murderers of their husbands have been brought to justice. InshaAllah, we will ensure that.”

“We are publishing a 10-volume memorial book with information about 717 martyrs and their families. Work on two more volumes to include information about 93 more martyrs is on progress," he said.

These 12 volumes contain contributions of the martyrs and their families. If there is any incorrect information, it will be corrected.

Stating that Jamaat-e-Islami has initiated to publish a memorial book titled "Martyrs of the 2nd Independence" to show respect to the martyrs and keep their contributions alive and vibrant, he said people should not forget the history of the July-August uprising.

For this reason, this memorial book is being published. This memorial book will also be useful to lawyers as a judicial aid, he added.

He said, “This memorial will be delivered to all important places including Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and Bar Associations on our behalf.”

Regarding the reason for calling the July-August uprising as the second independence, Abdul Halim said, our independence came in 1947 and 1971. The people of our country gave their lives for independence even in 1990.

“The reason for calling the July-August uprising as the second independence is that even as citizens of an independent country, we could not speak. We could not pray freely in the mosque,” he said.

“In addition, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders could not go to Baitul Mukarram mosque for 10 years to offer prayers. We could not go to wedding ceremonies either. That is why people say we have got our second independence,” he said.

He said the nation has been divided in the name of various slogans and statements in the last 53 years of independence. We think we want to be a united nation. On the Bangladesh issue, we Hindus, Buddhists, Christians all be united.

“There will be communal harmony among us. We can each form a different party, but on the Bangladesh issue, I am a proud citizen of the country, this will be the identity of all of us,” he mentioned.

Moulana Abdul Halim said the aggressive power had spread its paws in Bangladesh. They did not allow the Teesta Master Plan of Rangpur to be implemented. That enemy must be identified.

“The enemy of Bangladesh must be identified. The main goal of this consideration is that we, as a nation, will unite and safeguard the independence and sovereignty of the country,” he said.

He said the sovereignty of Bangladesh was also violated by the body of Shaheed Felani being impaled on the barbed wire. “We don’t want anyone else to die like Shaheed Felani,” he said.

Chaired by Rangpur Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer ATM Azam Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee members Moulana Mamtaz Uddin and Professor Mahbubar Rahman Belal, Rangpur District Ameer Professor Golam Rabbani and members of the martyr's family addressed the event.
