RANGPUR, Feb 5, 2025 (BSS) - A preparatory meeting for the continuous
movement on both banks of the Teesta on February 17 and 18 demanding fair
share of its water and implementation of the Teesta Mega Project was held
here today.
The Teesta River Protection Movement organised the meeting at the Rangpur
Chamber auditorium in the city with local politicians, businessmen,
journalists, civil society and professional leaders.
Coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Movement and Convener of Rangpur
Metropolitan BNP Shamsuzzaman Samu presided over the meeting.
President of Rangpur Journalists' Union (RpUJ) Salequzzaman Salek,
Metropolitan Sonak President Fakhrul Anam Benju, Coordinator of the Rangpur
district unit of State Reform Movement Professor Chinu Kabir, Rangpur
Metropolitan Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Imtiaz
Ahmed Imti, District President of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB)
Dr. Nikhil Shankar Guha, President of the Supermarket Traders Association
Jabed Hossain Jewel, Director of the Metropolitan Chamber Nurul Islam Patu,
General Secretary of the District Motor Owners Association Wasimul Bari Raj,
District President of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) Amin Uddin BSc,
among others, addressed the event.
Shamsuzzaman Samu said, "We will organize a series of events on both sides of
the river Teesta on February 17 and 18 and unite people from all walks of
life to materialise their demands."
"We have taken the initiative with the slogan "Jago Bahe, Teesta Banchai" to
organise rallies, plays, songs, and cultural programmes on both sides of the
river Teesta from Dimla in Nilphamari to Sundarganj in Gaibandha, to realise
the demands," Samu added.
Chief Coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Movement and Organising
Secretary (Rangpur division) of BNP Central Executive Committee Principal
Asadul Habib Dulu will attend the programmes as the chief guest.
