Agitated students-people demolish 3 murals of Mujib in Rangpur city

RANGPUR, Feb 6, 2025 (BSS) - Agitated students and people, including leaders
and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement, demolished three
murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by bulldozers in the city on Wednesday night.

Beginning from 9:30 pm, the mural of Sheikh Mujib was first vandalized and
demolished on the Begum Rokeya University campus with a bulldozer.

Later, leaders of the anti-discrimination movement and common students
declared the premises as Mukta Mancha.

At that time, the students were chanting sky-shattering slogans like 'Jone
Jone Khabar De, Mujibabad Kobor De', 'Chhatra Leaguer Thikana, Ei Banglay
Hobena', 'Abu Sayeed-Mugdho, Shesh Hoyni Juddho', 'Delhi na Dhaka,
Dhaka...Dhaka', 'Mujibabad Murdabad, Inqilab Zindabad' and so on.

Protesting students Aminur Rahman, Mushfikur Rahim and Aminur Rahman said
that the blood of thousands of students is stained on the hands of the ousted
mass murderer fascist Hasina.

The existence of murderer Hasina, her party Awami League and its leaders and
activists will no longer exist at Begum Rokeya University, they said.

Meanwhile, the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall has been
removed and renamed 'Bijoy 24' Hall and the name plaque of Bangamata Sheikh
Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall has also been demolished in the university campus.

Later, many agitated students expressed their ecstasy by burning a caricature
of Hasina in front of the demolished mural of Sheikh Mujib.

Meanwhile, at around 10:45 pm, leaders and supporters of the anti-
discrimination student movement and common people entered the Carmichael
College campus.

They vandalized the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman mural installed in front of the
main gate with hammers, axes and sticks and started shouting slogans.

On the other hand, at around 1:45 am, the Bangabandhu mural installed at the
Rangpur Zilla School intersection was demolished with a bulldozer.

Earlier, when fascist Hasina's regime was ousted in a mass uprising on August
5, the Bangabandhu mural was demolished and a banner with a picture of martyr
Abu Sayeed was put up there. The place was then renamed Swadhinata Chattar.

Rajimuzzaman Hridoy, a leader of the anti-discrimination student movement,
told reporters that students and people have created a grave of Sheikh Mujib
murals at Carmichael College and Begum Rokeya University.

Nahid Hasan Khandaker, spokesperson of the anti-discrimination student
movement, posted a picture of the sculpture altar at Carmichael College on
social media Facebook and wrote, "Fascism has been buried leaving the Statue
of Liberty intact...,"

Later, students and public took out a protest march through various important
streets of the city demanding the removal of symbols of fascism, the
prosecution of perpetrators of the July-August genocide, and banning of the
Awami League.

Imtiaz Ahmed Imti, convener of the anti-discrimination student movement
Rangpur Metropolitan Committee, said, "Our bulldozer programme is in protest
against fascist Hasina's coming live virtually from India and addressing the
students and the public.

"How dare the genocidal fascist Hasina come out in public when the blood
stains of my brothers have not yet dried? Fascism will be eradicated from
this country forever," he said.

Rahamat Ali, member-secretary of the Rangpur Metropolitan Committee of the
anti-discrimination student movement, said, "We have come together to
eradicate the fascist mark that fascist Hasina has left across the country."

"Our movement against discrimination will continue until justice is
established on this soil," Rahamat added.
