RANGPUR, Feb 7, 2025 (BSS) - Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman here today emphasized on giving an opportunity to the youth to come into leadership of the country.
 
“After the fall of the previous fascist government, there was no government for three-four days. At that time, students ran the country, not much crime was committed and there was no traffic on the roads. We have to evaluate these. We have to give structural status to these,” he said.
 
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the 12th Divisional Annual Sports Competition-2025 organized by the Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board Divisional Office at the Rangpur Stadium.
 
The senior secretary said, “Youth of today are coming into leadership. We have not been able to do anything in the last 16 years, those who have done so should be given an opportunity.”
 
He said the morale of the police force needs to be raised. The army has been brought in to assist the police, he said, adding that they have been given magisterial powers to assist the police.
 
Dr. Md. Mokhlesur Rahman also said that those who have family disputes are drawn towards drugs. The family is responsible for the youth becoming addicted to drugs.
 
“If they can be involved in sports, literature and cultural activities, they can be kept away from drugs. Drug addicts are a burden to the family, society and the state,” he said.
 
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam presided over the inaugural ceremony, which was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Rangpur Range Aminul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali, Additional Director General of Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board AKM Abdullah Khan and Director of its Rangpur Divisional Office Irin Sultana.  
 
Government officials, including the Deputy Commissioners of eight districts of Rangpur division, were present at the time.
 
More than three hundred competitors from eight districts of Rangpur division and Rangpur Metropolitan Team participated in a total of 35 events in the sports competition.
