12 pairs of dowry-free weddings on same stage in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 8, 2025 (BSS) - Keeping in mind the slogan 'We hate dowry, we 
pay Denmohor easily', Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation organized large-scale 
weddings of 12 pairs in a function arranged in the metropolis. 
 
The weddings were held on Saturday at the city's Rupak Theme Park community 
center under the initiative of the voluntary organization Alhaj Shamsul Hoque 
Foundation. 
 
The brides and grooms were dressed up and brought to the community center in 
horse-drawn carriages. 
 
There, the foundation's chairman Nasiruddin welcomed them with flowers. Then, 
in the presence of families of the brides and grooms, Mufti Monwar Hossain, 
the Khatib of Bogura Baitur Rahman Central Mosque, performed the weddings. 
 
The brides and grooms, along with their family members, were entertained by 
about 1,000 people. Along with this, furniture and saplings necessary for the 
new family were given as gifts. 
 
The organization has arranged honeymoons for all 12 couples in Cox's Bazar 
for marriages without dowry by paying dowry. 
 
Among the couples, Rakibuzzaman of Baburhat area of Dimlar in Nilphamari 
married Tasnima Jannat Tasmi of Dimla South Titpara of the same district by 
paying her Taka 50,000 as Denmohor.
 
Fuad Mia of Sulpur village in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur married Hawa Bibi 
of Shukur Hat Genar Par area in the same upazila by paying Taka 50,000 
Denmohor.
 
Al Mamun Mian of village Dhubani Kanchibari in Sundarganj upazila of 
Gaibandha married Julie Akhter of village Belkar in the same upazila paying 
Taka 20,000 Denmohor. 
 
Similarly, the other weddings were also held without any dowry and the grooms 
paid Denmohor money.
 
The groom Tanzir Islam said, "I am very happy to get married without dowry 
and according to Islamic Shariah by paying the Denmohor money." 
 
"The organizers respected us enough and arranged the wedding through 
extensive arrangements. I thank them for that," Tanzir Islam added.
 

Talking to local reporters, Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation Chairman Nasir 
Uddin said, "Today, 12 couples were married on behalf of our foundation. We 
bore all the expenses for their weddings."
 
"We want the dowry system to be eliminated from society. Also, those on whom 
marriage is obligatory should be married according to Islamic Shariah. There 
are plans to organize such arrangements in every division of the country in 
the future," he added.
