20th death anniversary of journalist Belal observed in Khulna

KHULNA, Feb 11, 2025 (BSS) -The 20th death anniversary of journalist Sheikh 
Belal Uddin, former vice president of Khulna Press Club and president of Khulna 
Metropolitan Union of Journalists (MUJ) was observed through various 
programmes today.

The leaders and members of the MUJ led by its president Md Anisuzzaman 
arranged a doa mahfil, offered jiarat at his grave and met with the family members 
of Belal. Among others, assistant secretary general of Bangladesh Federal Union 
of Journalists (BFUJ) Ehtashamul Haque Shayon, former vice president Md 
Rashidul Islam, executive member and former general secretary of MUJ H M 
Alauddin, acting general secretary of MUJ Abul Hasan Himalay, former joint 
secretary of Khulna Bar Association advocate Zakirul Islam and younger brothers 
of Sheikh Belal-Sheikh Borhan Uddin, Sheikh Shamsuddin Doha and Sheikh 
Kutub Uddin Rabbani, were present at the time.

Meanwhile, Khulna Press Club arranged a memorial meeting and doa mahfil on 
the occasion of the death anniversary of its former vice president at Humayun 
Kabir Balu auditorium. The memorial meeting was chaired by convenor of the 
press club Enamul Haque, where the speakers highlighted the colorful life and 
works of Belal. 

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Deputy Principal Information 
Officer, Khulna ASM Kabir, former president of Khulna Press Club Sheikh Abu 
Hassan and club members Didarul Alam, M H Alauddin, Abul Hasan Himalay, 
Rashidul Islam, M A Hasan and Ehtashamul.Haque Shayon.
 
Earlier, the club members placed wreath at the memorial of martyred journalists in 
front of the press club as a mark of respect to Sheikh Belal. They also observed a 
one minute silence in front of the monument in memory of Belal.

Sheikh Belal, former vice president of Khulna Press Club and bureau chief of 
Dainik Sangram was injured critically in a bomb attack in front of Khulna Press 
Club on January 5 in 2005. He later succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka 
Combined Military Hospital on January 11.
