RANGPUR, Feb 12, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and BNP chairperson's advisory council member Professor Dr Farhad Halim Doner has said the neighboring country benefits if Bangladesh's health sector collapses.

"The neighboring country earns 10 billion dollars from Bangladesh every year for our fragile health sector. The fascist regime has destroyed the country's health sector through corruption by making a master plan," he said.

Professor Halim said this while talking to reporters before the DAB's Rangpur divisional organizational rally at the Shaheed Rafiqul Islam Auditorium of Rangpur Medical College on Wednesday afternoon.

He said that it would have been better if the previous regime had improved the health sector despite corruption. That too has not happened. There has been no improvement from what the BNP government has done in the health sector till 2006.

"Rather the fascist regime has destroyed the health sector in the last 16 years," he said.

As an example of the destruction of the health sector, he said that during the BNP period, four linear machines were purchased for cancer treatment at the National Cancer Hospital.

"Recently, when I visited the hospital, I saw that all four machines were broken. This means that cancer treatment is not being done at the National Cancer Hospital either," he said.

Professor Halim said, "The cancer machine of Rangpur Medical Hospital is broken too. Cancer machines all over the country are broken. Cancer treatment is not being done anywhere in the country, neither in the government nor in the private sector."

He said that DAB and BNP have already presented long-term and short-term plans for the next 10 years to the current interim government regarding health sector reforms.

A plan has been made to make Bangladesh's health sector on the model of England's National Health System.

He said, "If a like-minded party like BNP comes to power, the health sector will be developed. A plan has been made for the health sector. The health sector has also been mentioned in the 31-point plan of BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman."

He said BNP's goal will be to turn the health sector, which was destroyed during the previous fascist regime, into a prosperous health sector.

DAB Central President Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid, its Secretary General Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Salam were present at the time.

Earlier, Professor Dr Farhad Halim Doner inaugurated the DAB Rangpur divisional organizational rally by releasing festoons and balloons as the chief guest.

Presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kenan, Convener of the DAB Rangpur Divisional Organizing Committee and Member of the Central Committee, Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Convener Shamsuzzaman Samu, its Member-secretary Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don, DAB Rangpur Metropolitan Branch Convener Dr. Nikhilendra Shankar Guha Roy and Member-secretary Dr. Shariful Islam Nontu, DAB Rangpur Medical College Branch President Dr. Mahmudul Haque Sarkar and its General Secretary Shariful Haque Mondal, attended the rally as special guests.
