Bagerhat, Feb 14, 2025 (BSS) - The Sundarbans Day was observed amid festivity at Bagerhat with a call to love the Unesco World Heritage Site on the Valentine’s Day as both the days fall on the same date.   

To observe the day, Bagerhat Press club and Save the Sundarbans jointly organized a rally in front of the Press Club and marched throughout the major streets in Bagerhat town. 

On the occasion a seminar titled ‘Love Sundarbans on Valentine’s Day’- was also arranged at the Press Club with Kazi Mohammad Nurul Karim, forest officer of east Sundarbans forest section of Bagerhat, as the chief guest.

Chairman of the Save the Sundarbans Foundation Dr. Sheikh Faridul Islam, general secretary of Bagerhat Television Journalists Association Molla Masudul Haque, Journalist Sawkat Ali Babu, Yamin Ali spoke at the seminar, among others. 

They urged the government to give recognition to the Sundarbans Day officially and take strict measures to protect the forest as this forest is being destroyed rigorously.

Emphasising on the importance of protecting the Sundarbans, they said Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest and it is very much unique for its distinct ecology. Thousands of visitors came every year to enjoy the scenic beauty of Sundarbans, they said, adding that this forest has been saving the country’s southern part from various disasters for hundreds of years.
