RANGPUR, Feb 18, 2025 (BSS) - The 'Shaheed Abu Sayeed Book Fair' has been
inaugurated at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) in memory of Abu Sayeed, a
pioneer of the July Revolution.
Shaheed Abu Sayeed's father Maqbul Hossain and Shaheed Felani Khatun's father Nur Islam
inaugurated the five-day book fair today at the Independence Memorial Square at the
initiative of the university administration.
BRUR Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali, along with the invited guests,
formally inaugurated the book fair by cutting a ribbon and releasing balloons. Later, he
inspected different stalls set up in the fair.
On this occasion, a discussion was organized on the fair premises.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Vice-chancellor said that this book fair has been organized by
the university administration to commemorate the outstanding contribution of Shaheed Abu
Sayeed in achieving the second independence of Bangladesh.
He said that writers, readers and visitors will visit the book fair everyday to pay tribute to all
the July uprising martyrs.
“Abu Sayeed, who sacrificed his life selflessly in the mass uprising of July-August 2024, is a
name discussed in the world as the greatest hero,” he said.
The Vice-chancellor strongly demanded that all the killers of Shaheed Abu Sayeed be
brought to justice, no matter how powerful they are.
At the same time, he said that a month-long Shaheed Abu Sayeed Book Fair will be
organized on a large scale in the future.
He sought everyone's cooperation to make this year's book fair a success.
Shahid Abu Sayeed Book Fair Organizing Committee Convener Professor Dr. Md. Elias
Pramanik presided over the discussion.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman
addressed the event as a special guest.
Shaheed Abu Sayeed's father Maqbul Hossain, Shahid Felani Khatun's father Nur Islam,
Teesta University Chairman Md. Ashraful Alam Al-Amin, and Shamsur Rahman Suman, a
student of the Bangla department, also spoke.
The five-day book fair will be held from February 18 to February 22. The book fair will
remain open from 2:30 pm to 9:30 pm every day.
