'Govt working as jute products can enjoy stimulus as agri goods'

DINAJPUR, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) - Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mia said that the government has been working as the jute items can enjoy stimulus as agricultural goods. 

"The government has attached topmost priority on jute following the instruction of the chief adviser of the interim government as he is very keen to see multifaceted development of the sector. We are all trying together so that jute can be used as a profitable commodity in many ways," he said. 

Dr. Mohammad Emdad said these while inaugurating a day-long farmer training on "Improved Varieties and Production Technology of Jute and Jute National Fiber Crops" organized by the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute-BJRI in Nashipur, Dinajpur at noon today. 

The agriculture secretary said, "We give importance on jute and we have adopted a long-term 25-year plan. In the plan, we are working on how to create a profitable environment for farmers by making jute a cash crop".

Presided over by BJRI Director General Dr. Nargis Akhter, it was addressed, among others, by Additional Secretary of the Research Sub-Division of the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Abu Zubair Hossain Bablu.

Md. Dabirul Islam and Uday Roy spoke on behalf of the farmers. 

50 farmers from Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari districts participated in the day-long training.

After the discussion, free BJRI Tosha Jute-9 (Green Gold) and Kenaf HC-95 variety seeds were distributed among the farmers.

At the same time, Jute Seed Production and Research Center, Nashipur, Dinajpur Farm In-charge Dr. Md. Rishad Abdullah, head of the farm Dr. Ranjit Kumar and Director (Administration and Finance) Dr. Md. Yaruddin Sarka and other officials were present.
