TETULIA, Feb 24 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested Suman Roy (26), son of Arun Roy from Dhelarhat, Thakurgaon, for illegally crossing the border from India into Bangladesh on Sunday afternoon.
According to a press release from the 18 BGB Battalion, Roy was arrested while crossing the border near the Puran Bazar area in Sadar Union of Tetulia upazila, 10 yards from the 2nd sub-pillar of Main Pillar 443.
Roy had previously entered India on November 20, 2024, through the Mirzapur border in Atwari upazila without a passport and had been living there for six months.
However, he was held while trying to return Bangladesh through the Mahananda River.
Earlier, local stone workers observed his crossing and alerted BGB, leading to his arrest.
Later, Roy was handed over to the Tetulia Model Police Station, where preparations for the case are underway, according to Officer-in-Charge Enayet Kabir.
Havildar Jalal Uddin of the Tetulia BGB Company Headquarters confirmed that the arrest was made based on secret information.
Panchagarh 18 BGB Battalion Commander Monirul Islam emphasized the force's continued efforts to prevent illegal border crossings and smuggling.
"We are committed to ensuring border security and will not tolerate any illegal infiltration," Islam stated.
