Scholarship cheques distributed among meritorious children of journalists

RANGPUR, Feb 24, 2025 (BSS) - Educational scholarship cheques were 
distributed among 63 meritorious children of journalists from eight districts 
of Rangpur division and donation cheques among 10 journalists from Thakurgaon 
here on Monday afternoon. 
 
Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalists' Welfare Trust (BJWT) and 
prominent journalist Muhammad Abdullah distributed the cheques at a ceremony 
held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner as the chief guest. 
 
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal presided over the ceremony. 
 
The BJWT and Rangpur Journalists' Union (RpJU) jointly organized the 
ceremony. 
 
Speaking at the ceremony, journalist Muhammad Abdullah said that the 
government has introduced scholarships for the meritorious children of 
journalists to reduce the financial pressure on the families of journalists. 

According to the trust's policy, journalists' children from class six to 
graduation level have been included in this scholarship. 
 
Regarding the grant for journalists, he said that any sick or insolvent 
journalist and the family members of a deceased journalist can apply to the 
Bangladesh Journalists' Welfare Trust for welfare grants at any time in the 
prescribed form. 
 
The BJWT will grant welfare grants based on the consideration of the 
application. The welfare grants for journalists and their family members are 
an ongoing process. 
 
Regarding the retirement allowance for senior journalists, he said that many 
journalists receive low salaries. As a result, it is difficult to manage 
their families. 
 
For this reason, the government is working to provide monthly retirement 
allowances to senior journalists. 
 
In addition, to encourage journalism, the BJWT has taken the initiative to 
provide fellowships to journalists. 
 

He urged journalists to disseminate objective, truthful information and 
portray the true picture of society. 
 
Rangpur Range Additional DIG Mohammad Sharif Uddin, RpJU President 
Salequzzaman Salek and Dinajpur Journalists' Union General Secretary Mahfizul 
Islam Ripon were present as special guests at the event moderated by RpJU 
General Secretary Sarkar Mazharul Mannan.
 
Additional DIG Mohammad Sharif Uddin said that the children of journalists 
who are receiving the scholarships today will play an important role in 
building the future of the country in the future. 
 
The guests present at the programme congratulated the students who received 
the scholarships and wished them success and welcomed this great initiative 
of the BJWT. 
 
Government officials, talented children of journalists and journalists were 
present at the programme. 
 
So far, under the cheques distribution programme, educational scholarships 
have been arranged for the merit-based children of 305 journalists from all 
over the country. 
 
Among them, scholarship cheques were distributed to 63 talented children of 
journalists from Rangpur division and donation checks were distributed to 10 
journalists from Thakurgaon on Monday.
