KURIGRAM, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS) - Khadija Begum, the widow of Shaheed Nur Alam, who was killed by police during the anti-discrimination student movement in Dhaka on July 20, 2024, has been offered a temporary job at Kurigram Agricultural University.

The university's Vice Chancellor, Dr. Muh. Rashedul Islam, personally extended the support after learning about her difficult circumstances.

Khadija, whose husband was martyred two months before the birth of their child, was living in terrible conditions with her father, a poor farmer, in Kachichar Munshipara, Bhogdanga Union, Kurigram Sadar Upazila.

Despite receiving some aid from the district administration and local figures, she struggled to support herself and her infant.

In an official statement, Dr. Rashedul Islam said, "It is our responsibility to support the family of a martyr. We hope this temporary job in the girls' hostel will provide Khadija with the relief she needs."

The meeting, where Khadija was given the job offer, was attended by several local leaders, including Kurigram District BNP Senior Joint Convener Professor Shafiqul Islam Bebu, Kurigram Char Development Committee Member Secretary Ashraful Haque Rubel, retired teachers Dewan Enamul Haque and Golam Mostafa, and others.

The initiative by Kurigram Agricultural University aims to provide Khadija with financial stability as she continues to care for her young child.
