NARAIL, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS) - The 89th birth anniversary of Birshrestha Lance
Nayek Nur Mohammad Sheikh, a valiant soldier of the Liberation War, was
observed at his birthplace Narail today through various programmes.
The programmes organised by the Birshrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust and the
district administration included Quran Khawani, rally, tribute, guard of
honor, discussion meeting and prayer ceremony.
On the occasion, Birshrestha Nur Mohammad Trust brought out a rally from Nur
Mohammad Nagar (formerly known as Mahishkhola) of Chandibarpur union of
Narail Sadar upazila at 10 am.
Various organisations including Narail district administration, Muktijoddha
Sangsad, Birshrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust, Birshrestha Nur Mohammad
School and College paid tributes at his memorial.
Guard of Honour was given on behalf of different organisations.
After that, a discussion meeting was held at the Birshrestha Shaheed Lance
Naik Nur Mohammad Sheikh Library and Memorial Museum auditorium.
Chaired by Birshrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh Trust President and Narail Deputy
Commissioner Sharmin Akhter Jahan, it was addressed, among others, by
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Zubair Hossain Chowdhury,
Birshrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh's son Sheikh Md. Mostafa Kamal, Birshrestha
Nur Mohammad School and College Principal and Birshrestha Nur Mohammad
Secondary School Headmaster.
People from various walks of life, including family members of Birshrestha
Nur Mohammad Sheikh, teachers and students of different school and colleges
were present at the event.
Nur Mohammad Sheikh was born in Mohishkhola village (now Nur Mohammad Nagar)
in Sadar upazila on this day in 1936.
He was martyred in an engagement with the Pakistan Army while providing
covering fire for the extrication of fellow soldiers at Goalhati-Kashipur
border in Jashore district on September 05, 1971.
