NAOGAON, March 3, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested six alleged dacoits from different areas of the region who were involved in a series of bus dacoity at Patnitola upazila of the district and Santhia upazila in Pabna district.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Naogaon Mohammad Safiul Sarwar at a press briefing in his office today said that police also recovered some looted goods, lethal weapons and a microbus used in the dacoity in this connection.
The arrested were Shamim Islam, 27, and Ranjit Chandra Barmon, 30, both hailed from Hatiar village under Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district, Abdul Latif, 27, of Jhumutpur village under the same upazila, Shaharul Islam, 37, and Shahidul Islam, 40, both are from Purandar village under Gabindganj upazila of Gaibandha district and Shahdat Hossain, 40, of Bindurail village under Kahalu upazila in Bogura district.
The SP in the briefing told the media that the arrested persons along with their accomplices' looted cash, valuables, mobile sets and ornaments from the passengers of a bus and a microbus putting wooden barricades on the road at a place in between Manashi-Karomjai area on Nazipur-Sapahar road under Patnitola upazila at about 12 midnight on February 22.
The dacoits entered the passenger bus breaking open the window glasses and looted cash, mobile sets and ornaments from the passengers, the SP said, adding that they have arrested three dacoits from Kalai upazila of Joypurhat, two from Gabindganj upazila in Gaibandha and one from Kahalu upazila in Bogura districts.
The arrested persons are the members of an inter-district dacoity gang.
Among them, Shahidul has been accused in six cases, the SP said.
The arrested persons have already confessed the dacoity incident at Patnitola upazila and the dacoity in 10 passenger buses at Santhia upazila in Pabna district, the SP added.
Among others, Additional Police Super Gaziur Rahman and Joybrata Paul and officer-in-charge of Patnitola Enayetur Rahim were present at the briefing.
The arrested dacoits were sent to the court with remand prayers.
