JHENAIDAH, March 6, 2025 (BSS) - People in the district are feeling relieved as the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is selling essentials to over 97,000 families at subsidized prices during the holy month of Ramadan.

"The TCB is selling essentials at subsidized rates among 97,505 families in the district. Among them, 95,505 families are receiving these benefits through smart cards," said Akram Hossain, assistant director of the Jhenidah TCB camp office.

Apart from this, TCB is also selling goods at five spots in the district town through mobile trucks, much to make people satisfied.

As TCB is selling edible oil, sugar, chickpeas, and lentils at affordable rates, long queues of men and women were seen collecting these goods from a truck in front of the court premises in the district town this morning.

Essentials through TCB are being sold at five locations, including Arappur, Hamdah, and Wazir Ali High School grounds.

Regarding TCB's selling programme, an official from the Jhenidah TCB camp said that the corporation is distributing essential commodities to 2,000 families daily through trucks. Additionally, TCB is providing goods to 95,505 families using designated smart cards at the upazila and union levels.

People are getting a TCB food package that includes two kg of edible oil, one kg each of lentils, sugar, and chickpeas for Tk 450, said the official. However, smart card holders are receiving the same package with an additional two kg of chickpeas.

Sharifa Khatun, who purchased essential commodities from a TCB truck today, said, "Getting essentials at lower prices is beneficial for us."

"The government is working to ensure that these TCB commodities reach people living in remote areas... We are striving to implement this," said Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Awal.

A committee has been formed to oversee the sale of TCB products across the district, he stated, adding that necessary measures will be taken immediately if any irregularities are found.

The TCB on Wednesday started selling of essential commodities through trucks in all 64 districts to ensure benefits for low-income groups.
