CHATTOGRAM, March 7, 2025 (BSS)- Four youths were arrested in the city for allegedly kidnapping a garment factory official and demanded ransom.
The arrestees were Nazmul Abedin, 23, Arafat Hossain, 23, Naimul Amin Imon, 22, , and Risti Bin Yusuf, 22.
They were taken into police custody on Thursday night after raiding in different area in the city, a press release from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) said.
The victims were Abedin Al Mamun, an assistant general manager at Pacific Jeans, a garment factory in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), and his driver, Md Jewel, according to the CMP.
They were reportedly abducted from Mamun's residence near Probhati School in city's Akbar Shah area.
According to a press release from CMP, the kidnappers abducted Abedin Al Mamun and his personal driver from his residence in the CDA residential area on Thursday night.
The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of Tk20 lakh from Mamun's wife, Fatema Akter.
They collected Tk five lakh in cash and secured a cheque for the remaining Tk15 lakh from Fatema Akter.
Following the abduction, police launched a citywide search operation for rescuing abducted Abedin Al Mamun. The kidnappers freed the victims near Foy's Lake Eye Hospital before fleeing.
OC Md Kamruzzaman of Akbar Shah thana told BSS that Tk 500,000 taken as ransom from Imon's house in city's in Uttar Kattali area was recovered.
