3.74 lakh children in Rajshahi to be fed vitamin 'A' capsules

RAJSHAHI, Marchi 10, 2025 (BSS)- A total of 3,74,500 children will be fed vitamin 'A' capsules in Rajshahi district during the forthcoming National Vitamin 'A' Plus Campaign-2025 scheduled to be held on March 15.

According to the Civil Surgeon Office, 33,000 children aged six to eleven months will receive blue-coloured vitamin 'A' capsules, while 2.72 lakh children aged 12 to 59 months will be given red-coloured capsules at 2,201 centres across nine upazilas of the district.

In Rajshahi City Corporation area, 8,500 children in the six to eleven months age group will receive blue capsules, and 61,000 children aged 12 to 59 months will be given red capsules at 483 centers.

At a press conference Civil Surgeon office informed about their upcoming campaign held at its conference hall on Sunday afternoon. Civil Surgeon Dr Mahbuba Khatun and Medical Officers Dr Bayezeed-Ul-Islam and Dr Tamanna Kabir addressed the press conference detailing the scheduled activities of the campaign along with its aims and objectives.

The officials emphasized the essential role of vitamin 'A' supplementation in preventing vitamin deficiency disorder, maintaining normal vision, supporting cell function, red blood cell production and immunity and reproduction.  

 In his keynote presentation, Dr Bayezeed-Ul-Islam said the vitamin 'A' plus supplement is helpful for reducing the severity and duration of illnesses associated with pneumonia and diarrheal. He also added, the supplementation is also important for substantial reduction of the death rate caused by diarrhea and measles.
 
Besides, various problems including eyesight and night blindness could be prevented and cured through successful implementation of the campaign , he added.
 
Citing WHO guidelines, he said children should begin vitamin 'A' supplement at the age of six months.

The officials sought media cooperation to make the campaign total success.
