NARSINGDI, March 11, 2025 (BSS) - A youth was hacked to death and his father
injured in Joynagar village under Palash upazila of the district following a
dispute over auto-rickshaw fare last night.
The deceased was identified as Suman Mia, 30, son of Alam Mia, 45, a
construction worker, of Joynagar village under Palash upazila.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Hanif Mia of Palash Police Station confirmed the
matter today.
Victim's family and police said the dispute began around 4 pm when Suman
Mia's uncle Mukul Mia hired a battery-run auto-rickshaw to travel from
Joynagar village to Danga Bazaar.
At that time, four individuals-- Tarek, 27, Ayub Mia, 32, Nazmul Hossain, 30,
and Momen Mia, 32, -- attempted to take the auto-rickshaw by offering a
higher fare which led to an argument between them and Mukul Mia. At one
stage, all of them got involved in an argument which eventually escalated
into a confrontation.
Following the incident, Tarek and his accomplices allegedly sought revenge
and went to Mukul Mia's house around 8:15 pm on the day.
Upon finding Suman and his father near a grocery store, they attacked them
with sharp weapons. Later, the assailants fled the scene leaving both
critically injured.
Locals rushed the injured to Narsingdi 100-bed District Hospital where
doctors declared Suman Mia's dead.
His father, Alam Mia, was transferred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital
(DMCH) for better treatment. He remains in critical condition now.
"Being informed, we promptly visited the scene. We have launched an operation
to arrest those who were involved in the murder. We are conducting further
investigations and will take necessary actions accordingly," the SI stated.
