National Vitamin A plus campaign begins in Khulna city

KHULNA, March 15, 2025(BSS) - The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2025 has begun today here in the city. 

Chief Executive Officer of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Laskar Tajul Islam inaugurated the national medical campaign at the premises of Amirabanu Begum Urban Maternity Centre. 

A total of 1,420 volunteers have been working at 710 centers across the city.

At least 1,22,420 children at 31 wards under the KCC will be fed Vitamin A Plus capsules. Of them, 14,600 children aged 6-11 months will be administered blue Vitamin-A plus capsule and 107,820 children aged 12-59 months will be fed red Vitamin A plus capsule.

Inaugurating the national campaign, Laskar Tajul Islam stressed the need for Vitamin-A plus capsule for children's physical and mental growth.

Mentioning that the campaign aims to build better lives of children, he said children suffer from various diseases due to deficiency of Vitamin A.

Collective efforts and a sense of responsibility among all concerned can make the campaign a success for the sake of the betterment of the nation's future generation, he added. 

The chief guest also noted that Vitamin A is present in leafy green vegetables, such as water spinach. He urged volunteers to counsel parents on preventing malnutrition-related blindness, as well as the importance of Vitamin A and maintaining a balanced diet.

KCC secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, assistant director of the divisional health department Dr Aparna Bishwas, and chief health officer of KCC Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam, among others, addressed the inaugural function.

Organised by the KCC's health department, its acting chief engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan and medical officer of the civil surgeon office Dr Dolena Khatun attended the event.
