RANGPUR, March 15, 2025 (BSS) - Experts in separate ceremonies today said
feeding Vitamin A Plus capsules to the under-five children is very important
for boosting their immunity, normal growth, preventing night blindness and
many other diseases.
They made the observation at the inaugural ceremonies of the National Vitamin
A Plus Campaign 2025 at the immunization centre of Rangpur City Corporation
and other places in the district.
The campaign is being conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and
Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of
Health and Family Planning.
Rangpur Divisional Director of the Local Government Division Md Abu Jafar
launched the campaign by administering Vitamin 'A' Plus Capsules to some
under five babies in a ceremony held at the City Bhaban as the chief guest.
Chief Executive Officer of Rangpur City Corporation Ummey Fatima, its
Secretary Joyoshree Rani and Chief Property Officer (Senior Assistant
Secretary) Mousumi Afrida addressed the occasion as special guests.
Chief Health Officer Md. Kamruzzaman Ibn Taj presided over the function as
delivered a welcome address.
Dr Kamruzzaman narrated the importance of continuation of Vitamin A
supplementation for the under-five babies to strengthen their immune system
and disease resistance capacity for their healthier growth.
Under the campaign, 19,500 children aged six months to 11 months were to be
fed blue vitamin capsules and 114,000 children aged 12 to 59 months red
vitamin capsules in the city corporation area.
"To make the campaign a success, 666 health workers and volunteers, including
supervisors, monitoring and supervision, were engaged in the work of feeding
'Vitamin 'A' capsules in 297 centers in 33 wards of the city," Dr Kamruzzaman
further said.
Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr. Shahina Sultana and other officials
inaugurated the campaign by administering Vitamin 'A' Plus Capsules to under
five babies in different ceremonies arranged in the city and rural areas.
A total of 39,422 children aged six to 11 months in the district were to be
given one blue-colored vitamin 'A' plus capsule and 318,078 children aged 12
to 59 months one red-colored vitamin 'A' plus capsule each, she said.
"To make this campaign successful, 3,664 volunteers, 456 health workers and
228 supervisors were engaged in the work of feeding vitamin 'A' plus capsule
at 1,832 outreach centers in three municipalities and eight upazilas of the
district," the Civil Surgeon of the district added.
