LALMONIRHAT, March 19, 2025 (BSS) - A significant initiative to safeguard roadside trees was launched today in Lalmonirhat as part of the nationwide 'Tree Protection Programme' by the Social Forest Department of Rangpur.
Additional District Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman inaugurated the month-long program aimed at removing signboards and pins that are damaging roadside trees.
Speaking at the event, Mahbubur Rahman highlighted the detrimental impact of advertising materials on roadside trees.
He said, "We have observed that roadside trees are frequently harmed by advertising institutions. The practice of attaching billboards, festoons, and banners to trees using pins is increasing. As a result, these trees are at risk, further exacerbating the negative impacts of climate change on our daily lives."
As part of the initiative, signboards and pins embedded in trees across various locations in Lalmonirhat have been removed. Additionally, an awareness campaign has been carried out to discourage the future placement of signboards using pins on trees within the district.
Assistant conservator of Forests (Social Forest Division) of Kurigram Mohammad Rashid Arif and acting officer of Lalmonirhat Nursery and Training Center, Anisur Rahman, among others, were present at the event.
