KHULNA, March 19, 2025 (BSS) – With only eleven days left for the holy Eid-
ul-Fitr, shopping has gained momentum in Khulna as shoppers from all strata are
flocking to various city markets to buy clothes and other necessities.
All the city markets are seen busy in selling their commodities to customers from
morning till midnight. The buying spree is likely to continue till the last day of
the holy month of Ramadan.
Every day, shoppers from various parts of Khulna city and surrounding areas visit
shopping malls and markets with their families to buy new clothes, shoes,
jewellery, and other items at reasonable prices ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The volume of transactions is relatively higher this year than the previous years.
With Khulna’s major shopping centers such as Boro Bazar, Moshiur Rahman
Market, Khaja Khanjahan Ali Hawkers Market, Nixon Market, Shaheed
Suhrawardy Market, Esha Chamber, Akter Chamber, Malek Chamber,
Dawkbangla Super Market, Khulna Shopping Complex, Khan Tower, KDA
New Market, Arong, Safe and Save, and Shibbari Square buzzing with Eid
shoppers.
Wealthier buyers are flocking to large shopping centers, while middle-income
shoppers are purchasing their desired items from Borobazar and Nixon Market.
Meanwhile, makeshift markets along the footpaths are buzzing with low-income
people, who are busy buying clothes and the others products from there.
Ruhul Amin Tarafdar, a owner of a garment shop at the Dawkbangla area said,
"The turnout of shoppers is good this year till now, and it has increased even
more since the 15th of Ramadan. Since then, the number of customers has
increased significantly. As my shop mainly sells children's clothing, the crowd has
grown even more."
Besides, as there are still several days left for Eid, the crowd of shoppers will
undoubtedly increase in the coming days, he said.
Rezaul Akand, owner of a shoe shop at City’s Shibbari said, "Eid sales are
increasing every day, and I hope this year, we'll be able to earn good profits than
the previous year."
Asiya Chowdhury, a customer from the city's Boyra area said, there is a huge
crowd in the Dawkbangla shop area, with hardly any space to walk after the
evening and it is difficult to browse the shops as well as find the desired products.
Mafuja Nilu, another customer from Khalishpur who came to KDA New Market
said, usually, I buy Eid clothes in advance to avoid the market rush, but this time,
due to a busy schedule, I couldn't. So, I came to KDA New Market for the first
time today. It is tough to visit the market with children, so I plan to finish my
shopping by today or tomorrow.
Khulna Shopping Complex is one of the busiest places for Eid shopping both for
shop owners and the customers.
"We had decided to keep our shop open even on Fridays, the weekly holiday,
since the beginning of Ramadan. As most of the working professionals do their
shopping on this day, said Md. Abul Hasan, Secretary of Khulna Shopping
Complex Owners Association.
“Now, our shop employees hardly get a moment to breathe due to the rush. We
hope that sales will increase even more in the remaining days before Eid," he said.
He also said that market authority has organized special security arrangement since
the beginning of Ramadan.
This year, locally-made brands such as Bari, Lucky, Rupkotha, Alikodor, Pakija,
Jomjom, Balamkari, and Ferdous are highly popular among young women, he
said, adding that prices range from Tk 550 to Tk 2,500.
Traditional sarees like Tangail and Jamdani remain popular among women, while
digital-print sarees have sparked new excitement among Eid shoppers.
Pakistani three-pieces are the top choice among young women this year. Of the
three pieces, 'Sada Bahar' is priced between Tk 3,500 and Tk 5,000, 'Bin Saeed'
between Tk 4,500 and Tk 7,500, 'Shipon Tawakkal' between Tk 3,500 and Tk
7,500, and 'Bin Hamed' between Tk 1,500 and Tk 2,000.
Indian Khaddi Jerjote sarees (Tk 6,000-12,000), Soft Benaroshi Katan (Tk
5,500-6,500), Indian Jamdani (Tk 3,200-4,500), South Indian Organza Shipon
(Tk 4,000-6,500), Rajasthani Jaypuri Silk (Tk 2,500-4,500), Monipuri sarees
from Sylhet (Tk 2,000-2,200), Gadwal Silk (Tk 12,000-13,000), Tangail soft
silk (Tk 3,000-10,000), and Belkuchi from Sirajganj (Tk 2,500-4,500) are also
among the favourite choices of woman customers, said Hasan.
Imported jeans brands such as, BAGGY, and TOMMY Jeans, priced between Tk
950 and Tk 3,200, are top choices of male customers.
Popular Panjabi brands such as 'Sheikh Shadi,' 'Afgani Panjabi', 'Star,' and 'Top
Ten' are being sold between Tk 600 and Tk 2,500 in the city.
