SUNAMGANJ, March 20, 2025 (BSS) – With Eid-ul-Fitr approaching, sales in
different shopping malls and roadside markets in the district are gaining
momentum.
A large number of customers were thronging different markets from morning till
midnight to buy their desired outfits. Almost all the shops were decorated with
colourful lights, banners and festoons giving the city a festive look.
The district and police administration have taken adequate security measures to
ensure safety and security of the buyers and the shop keepers, official sources said
here today. The people of the district town including buyers and sellers are happy
with the steps taken by the administration.
Huge crowd was seen at London Mansion, Hawkers Samobay Market, Doza
Market, Neza Plaza, Ehsan Market, Ma-Babar Dua Market, Millennium Market
and Lily Shopping Market.
The gathering of buyers is increasing everyday as the date of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr
is approaching. The customers from the rural areas have been gathering at the
markets during day time and the people from the district town have been
gathering after Iftar.
Attractive brands were displayed in different shops but the items with the name of
Indian TV serial are very few. Many local brands are available in the markets this
year. Besides, Panjabi, shirt, T-shirt, fotwa, three-pieces, two pieces and kid’s
dress are also available in the market.
Eid attires and shoes of babies and small kids are being sold extensively while
cosmetics remain top priority for girls along with their buying dresses.
Ringku Ray, manager of Reefat Fashion of hawkers’ samobay market told this
reporter that the demand of Indian dresses was very high last year but this year the
demand of Pakistani dresses has increased. He also expressed his satisfaction over
the overall law and order situation of the district town.
Fatema Begum, a customer of Faiza Shoes at Synamganj station road told this
correspondent that the prices of the shoes are higher this year than the previous
year. Hafeza Khatun, another buyer from Surma union of Sadar upazila echoed
the same.
Mohibur Rahman, owner of Subarna garments claimed that prices of the gents
wear have increased this year but there is no extortion or mugging in the town.
Wajef Bakht, manager of Nongor at Priyangon area said that the sale has
increased significantly after the 15th Ramadan and it would see a big jump in the
last week of Ramadan.
Tofail Ahmed, Superintendent of Police (SP) told BSS that they have taken
strong security measures at different markets, shopping complexes and important
points of the town to ensure safety and security of the customers and shoppers.
Dr Md Elias Miah, Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj told BSS that the local
administration has asked all concerned to conduct mobile court operations at the
shopping malls in the district to check extra prices of goods and clothes.
The market monitoring committee constituted by the commerce ministry has also
been monitoring the market situation, the DC added.
