RANGPUR, March 22, 2025 (BSS) - Like every year, this year too, the Rangpur
Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Traffic Division has introduced a new traffic
management to ease the traffic congestion in the city due to the huge influx
of Eid shoppers.
The Metropolitan Traffic Division has instructed rickshaws and auto-rickshaws
to be diverted by setting up check posts at several points in the city.
Shoppers and businessmen believe that the new traffic management on the main
road will reduce the suffering to some extent.
According to Metropolitan Police sources, an initiative has been taken to
control the movement of battery-run auto-rickshaws in the areas adjacent to
the Lakshmi Cinema Hall intersection, Jiban Bima intersection, Lions School
and College intersection and the customs office on the Central Road in
Rangpur city.
This will reduce traffic congestion as auto-rickshaw movement will be limited
on the main roads of the main city. The suffering of people coming to shop
during Eid will be eased to some extent.
The city residents have welcomed this initiative of the Metropolitan Police
Traffic Division to resolve traffic congestion in the city.
Shoppers in the Eid bazaar face various kinds of suffering due to traffic
congestion for hours all year round from the city's Jahaj Company
intersection to the City Corporation Office.
This traffic congestion increases several times during Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
Talking to BSS today, couple Tuhin Mandal and Parveen Akhter, who came to
shop for Eid-ul-Fitr festivity, said that shopping during Eid is very
difficult in Rangpur city due to traffic congestions.
"There is no way to shop with family members while fasting. If the traffic
jams ease a little, we can spend more time shopping with pleasure," Parveen
Akhter said.
College student Armanul Haque, who came from Kurigram to shop, said, "Every
year, I come to Rangpur to shop during Eid. This time too. However, the
introduction of new rules in the traffic system from today has already
brought some relief."
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of RpMP Md Abdur Rashid said, there
is already a lot of pressure on auto-rickshaws and rickshaws in Rangpur city.
This pressure increases several times during Eid.
"Therefore, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, a new traffic management has been
established by restricting auto-rickshaws and rickshaws on some roads and
increasing the manpower of the traffic police along with volunteers," he
said.
Seeking cooperation from city residents during this time, he hoped that this
new traffic management system would reduce traffic congestion, allowing
shoppers moving freely to shop comfortably.
