KHULNA, March 25, 2025 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will implement a massive development works aiming at establishing a modern, green, clean and water logging free beautiful city.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee formed by the government to oversee the overall activities of KCC. The meeting was held at KCC’s Shaheed Altaf auditorium today with KCC Administrator Md Firoz Sarkar in the chair.
The committee was formed in accordance with section 25(k-2) of the "Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance 2024".
In the meeting, several decisions were taken to implement various development programmes including preservation of city’s water bodies through landscaping and identification of focal points.
The meeting was also decided to involve relevant departments and disciplines from Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) in survey and design planning for development projects.
In addition, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed with the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) for the installation of sluice gates and pump houses in Alutala and Labanchara area in the city.
The renewal of temporary leases for KCC-owned land at Dakbangla intersection and the vertical expansion of the single-story market on the western side of earthen road were also approved.
The meeting also approved the modernization of the city’s 22 intersections while ensuring that costs remain within the estimated budget.
Instructions were given to complete ongoing road and drainage projects within the schedule time while maintaining quality standards in a view to free the city from the curse of water logging before the rainy season.
The KCC Administrator Firoz Sarkar, who is also the Khulna divisional commissioner directed all concerned to work with utmost sincerity to implement the unanimously adopted decisions, emphasizing the need for transparency in every service-oriented activity of KCC.
He also stressed the need of mosquito control ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr and warned that any negligence in duty in this regard would lead to accountability.
Conducted by KCC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Laskar Tajul Islam, the meeting was addressed, among others, by KCC Secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Akter Bushra, Chief Waste Management Officer and Executive Magistrate Kohinoor Jahan.
Representatives of Khulna Metropolitan Police, Khulna Development Authority, Khulna WASA, BTCL, Forest Department, BIWTA, Primary and Secondary Education Departments, and authorized officials from KCC’s Ward No-31 attended the meeting.
