Genocide Day observed in Ctg with vow to uphold Liberation War spirit

CHATTOGRAM, March 25, 2025 (BSS) - The Genocide Day was observed today in the port city as well as different parts of the district remembering the brutal atrocities carried out by the Pakistani occupation forces and with a vow to uphold the inherent spirit of country’s Liberation War in 1971. 

To mark the day, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), district administration and different socio-political and cultural bodies have observed the day by chalking out elaborate programs throughout the day. 

Organizing discussion meeting, placing garlands at the mass graveyard memorial, exhibiting the rare and historic photographs, documentaries and offering special prayers at mosques and other places of worship were the programs to mark the day.   
City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossen placed wreath at martyred memorial at Mass Graveyard at Pahartali in the city paying rich tribute to the unarmed Bangalis, who sacrificed their lives on the night of darkest chapter in the nation’s history and the martyrs during nine-months blood stained struggle for country’s Independence in 1971. 

Chattogram district administration organized a discussion meeting at local circuit house conference room highlighting the significance of the day and recalling different aspects of the historic War of Liberation.  

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md Ziauddin was the chief guest at the discussion meeting held with Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanom in the chair. 

DIG of Ctg range Md. Ahsan Habib Polash, Additional Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Md Humayun Kabir, district police superintendent Md Saiful Islam Santo, among others, took part in the discussion. 

Taking part in a brief discussion after placing wreaths at Mass Graveyard, the city mayor said the nation snatched the victory by defeating the Pakistani occupation forces and achieved an Independent country through huge sacrifices in the Libration War in 1971. 

“We have achieved another victory in August 5, 2024 through which we had been able to free the country from the clutches of autocratic regime. But the victories in 1971 and 2024 cannot be compared with each other as two victories are characteristically different due to their outcomes and impacts” he said. 

Chief executive officer of the CCC Sheikh Md Towhidul Islam, Secretary Md Ashraful Amin, Chief Conservancy Officer Commander Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, among others, were present on the occasion.
