RANGPUR, March 26, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court of the Department of Environment (DoE) in daylong drives have fined four illegal brick kiln owners Taka 10-lakh for violating the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment Act in Pirganj upazila here on Tuesday.
The brick kilns were also closed by demolishing the chimneys and kilns with an excavator, the DoE officials said today.
The mobile court was conducted under a joint initiative of the Rangpur and Dhaka offices of the Department of Environment.
The mobile court fined owners of the four brick kilns of Messer's HMB Bricks in village Zahidpur, Messer's Tithi Bricks in village Joypur, Messer's Goi Bricks in village Sreerampur and Messer's SLB Bricks in village Laldighi of Pirganj upazila.
The police, army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 and fire service members assisted in conducting the drives.
During the drives, the Department of Environment officials said that such operations against illegal brick kilns would continue to reduce the use of fertile topsoil of agricultural land in brick kilns, prevent damage to the environment and reduce air pollution.
