RANGPUR, March 26, 2025 (BSS) - As the prices of daily essentials came down to normal and improvement in the economic conditions of people, bustling Eid markets are witnessing record sales in Rangpur city.
Traders said Eid shopping has now reached the peak amid tight security measures at all markets, shopping malls, complexes and business centres, makeshift and roadside markets and shops.
At the moment, colourfully decorated markets have worn festive looks with rushing men, women, girls, boys, adolescents, students and youths leaving no place for sesame seeds in markets and their movements have created traffic jams in the city.
As Eid approaches, the shopping frenzy is increasing in full swing in Rangpur.
A tour of the city showed that more than a hundred state-of-the-art showrooms including RAMC Market, Jahaz Company Shopping Complex, Zilla Parishad Market, Super Market, Jamal Market, Chhalek Market, Rajnigandha Market, Yolo, Umbrella, Infinity, Aarong, Darjibari, Bond, Diamond, Bengal Boss, Anjan and others have been decorated with lights.
This time, Jamdani saree is being sold for Taka 3,000 to 30,000, brand three-pieces like Paglu, Bipasha Basu, Jannat-2, Aashiqui-2, Gypsy for girls for Taka 350 to 28,000, cargo jeans for boys, Thai, Discard-2, Sim Fit, formal T-shirts for boys for Taka 750 to 3,500, lehenga, masakali, single top, topset, genji sheet for children for Taka 1,200 to 6,000, dhoti katan for adults for Taka 350 to 5,000 and attractive sherwanis for Taka 5,000 to 30,000.
In addition, hawkers have set up stalls on both sides of the road from the city's Grand Hotel intersection to the Town Hall square selling clothes, sandals, shoes, pants-shirts, three-pieces, sarees, lungis, Punjabis, children's clothes, hats, perfumes, and other items.
Tanvir Uzzaman Ashrafi, managing director of Royalty Mega Mall, which is famous for bringing together all the products under one roof, said that the sale is not bad this year.
"It can be said that the business is going well. Each class has different needs. Some want to buy good products. Some want to buy products at low prices. We have made preparations at Royalty Mega Mall keeping in mind all types of buyers," he said.
Abu Taher, manager of the Green Fashion and Sports Showroom at the DC intersection in the city, said, "Sales are not bad as a new business center. Especially since there are discounts of 10 to 30 percent on product purchases, buyers are visiting more and more."
A footpath trader Moynul Haque, in front of Old Sadar Hospital, said, "Many people think that only low-quality clothes are sold on the footpath shops.
"But this idea is not entirely correct. Here, good quality clothes are also available at cheap prices. We sell for a small profit. Because we do not have lighting bills, shop rent. Even if we sell clothes for a small profit, it is okay," he said.
Earlier, only the lower class used to come to footpath shops. However, now many middle class people come to buy goods.
Footpath shopkeeper Mansur Ali in front of Rangpur Press Club on the Station Road said, sales have been good since the beginning of Ramadan.
Youth Mahbub Hossain, who came to buy Punjabi in Aarong, said he buys Punjabi from Aarong every year an also bought a Punjabi this year too.
Talking to BSS today, Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Md. Akbar Hossain said that sales of Eid items are satisfactory so far following the increase in income of the common people.
