Ctg observes Independence Day with call for greater national unity

CHATTOGRAM, March 26, 2025 (BSS) – The 55th Independence and National Day was observed in Chattogram city and district with due fervor and solemnity, paying tribute to the martyrs and calling for greater national unity.
 
Along with the district administration, Chattogram City Corporation, various political parties, and socio-cultural organizations organized elaborate programs to mark the day.
 
The day’s programs began with a 31-gun salute at dawn at the central Liberation War memorial in Kattalo, Chattogram.
 
Following this, city mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossen placed a wreath at the Liberation War memorial in the early morning. Top officials of the divisional, district, and police administrations, along with freedom fighters, also placed wreaths at the memorial, paying rich tribute to the valiant sons of the nation who made the supreme sacrifice for the country’s liberation from Pakistani occupation forces.
 
Since early morning, leaders of various political parties, socio-cultural organizations, and people from all walks of life gathered at the Liberation War memorial, carrying national flags, flowers, banners, and festoons to pay their solemn respects.
 
A large number of children and young people, both male and female, were seen wearing green and red outfits, as well as headgear matching the colors of the national flag, as they gathered at the memorial to honor the national heroes.
 
The national flag was hoisted atop all government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and important private offices. Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar Chattogram centers aired special programs, while local dailies published special issues highlighting the significance of the historic day.
 
One of the key attractions of the day was a colorful parade held at M. A. Aziz Stadium at 9 a.m., featuring smartly turned-out contingents from various departments, including police, Ansar, Village Defense Party (VDP), Fire Service and Civil Defense, Rovers and Boy Scouts, and the Youth Red Crescent.
 
Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin inaugurated the parade as the chief guest by releasing balloons and pigeons. He later inspected the parade.
 
The BNP city, south, and north district units, along with the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami city unit, Chattogram University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), and Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Science University, organized various events, including wreath-laying ceremonies and discussion meetings, to celebrate Independence and National Day.
