SUNAMGANJ, March 27, 2025 (BSS) - The prices of essential commodities are stable in the district during this Ramadan compared to during last 10 years, local people and official sources said here today.
The consumers at different markets said the prices of essential commodities were increased during last 10 years but for the first time, this year the prices are stable. The buyers are very happy with the prices of the essential commodities this year.
While talking to the correspondent, Rehana Begum, a housewife of the town, at Puraton Jail Raod Bazar, expressed her satisfaction over the prices of essentials and that's why she was able to buy Eid gifts easily for her family members this year.
Md Osman Gani, a lecturer of Sunamganj Poura Degree College and Gouranga Dey, a grocery shop owner at Station Raod Bazar echoed with Rehena Begum.
Dewan Tassadduk Raja Chowdhury Imon, general secretary of Hassan Bazar Committee, thanked the government as well as administration for keeping the prices of the essential goods within the purchase capacity of the common people.
Ajoy Ray, a grocery shop owner at Puratol Jail Raod bazaar and Bachchu Miah, a dry fish trader of local kitchen market also expressed their satisfaction over the existing price.
Abdul Jabbar, a businessman of the town, claimed that the price of one kilogram (KG) onion was Taka 90 in last year but the price is only Taka 40 this year.
The price of one KG 'Chhola'(chickpea) is Taka 100 to 105, one KG 'puishak' (Malabar spinach) is from 30 to 35, one KG 'Khira'(Cucumber) from Taka 35 to 40, one KG 'gazor' (carrot) is from Taka 30 to 40, one kilogram potato is Taka 20 and one KG green chilly is from Taka 40 to 50 in the markets, he added.
Md Delwar Hossain, Senior Vice President of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Sunamganj district unit, told BSS that the trend of the prices of essentials was downward this year and within the purchasing capacity of the people.
Dr Md Elias Miah, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sunamganj told BSS that the district administration held several meetings with concerned authorities to keep the prices of essentials as stable. The Bazar Monitoring Committee constituted in line with the instructions of the commerce ministry has been working and constantly monitoring the market situation, he said,adding that they have also started open market sale of essential commodities with low price considering the sufferings of the general people during the Ramadan.
