Khulna Eid Markets bustling with last-hours shoppers

KHULNA, March 28, 2025 (BSS) – With only three days left to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, shoppers in Khulna are rushing to shopping malls and markets to purchase new clothes, shoes, jewellery, cosmetics, and other essentials for their near and dear ones.

All the city markets were seen busy as shoppers rushed markets for their last minute shopping from morning till midnight. The buying spree would continue till the last day (Chand Raat) of the holy month of Ramadan.

Shops in malls, markets, and makeshift stalls lining both sides of the footpaths in Khulna city are showcasing vibrant dresses, sarees, and shoes for men and women to attract shoppers.  

Ramadan remains one of the busiest periods for shop owners, and this year, they anticipate even higher Eid sales.

Shoppers from various parts of Khulna city and surrounding areas are flocking to malls and markets with their families, purchasing new clothes, shoes, cosmetics, and prayer accessories at affordable prices, with stores remaining open around the clock.

During a visit on Thursday to Khulna Shopping Complex, Nixon Market, Borobazar, New Market, Jalil Tower, Dak Bangla Super Market, Shaheed Suhrawardy Biponi Bitan, Safe and Save, KDA Avenue Market, Darbesh Chamber, Esha Chamber, Akter Chamber, Samrat Bazar, Apex Gallery in Khulna city, Mortoza Mansion in Daulatpur, Khalishpur Super Market, Phulbarigate Bazar Market and Shiromoni Boishakhi Super Market, the news agency's Khulna reporter saw most of the shopping centers and markets abuzz with Eid shoppers.

Abu Huraira, a businessman, of Nixon Market said, "I have stocked my shop with clothes for children, men, and women from Dhaka. The shopper turnout is promising this year, and it is expected to increase further after the 25th of Ramadan."

Md Jahangir, owner of D-Rex Showroom said, "Eid shopping has got momentum after the 25th of Ramadan, and I expect hundreds of people to purchase clothes on the night before Eid. I have ample stock in my shop to meet the demand."

Sharif  Hussain, owner of Welcome Shoe shop said, "Eid sales are improving every day. We are not breathing properly after the Iftar period and I hope this time, we'll be able to see good profits."

Doctor Lutfun Nahar, a Gynaecologist of Friends Diagnostic Centre of City’s Sonadanga area and a customer who came to New Market, said there is a huge crowd at the shopping malls and it is difficult to browse the shops with children.
Wealthier buyers are flocking to large shopping centers, while middle-income shoppers are purchasing their desired items from Dawkbangla and Nixon Market. 

Meanwhile, makeshift markets along the footpaths where the low-income shoppers are buying clothes and the others products as well.

Monzurul Alam, an owner of a garment shop at the Dawkbangla area said, "The turnout of shoppers is very good this year now, and it has increased even more since before last night of Eid day. 
Besides, as there are still only three days left for Eid, the crowd of shoppers will undoubtedly increase in the coming days, he said.

Niaz Mohammad, owner of a shoe shop at City’s Shibbari said, "Eid sales are growing steadily every day, and I'm hopeful that this year, we'll make better profits compared to previous."

This year, locally-made brands such as Bari, Lucky, Rupkotha, Alikodor, Pakija, Jomjom, Balamkari, and Ferdous are highly popular among young women, he said.

Traditional sarees like Tangail and Jamdani remain popular among women, while digital-print sarees have sparked new excitement among Eid shoppers.

This year, Pakistani three-piece ‘Salwar-Kamij” are proving to be the top choice among young women. The most popular among them include 'Sada Bahar', 'Bin Saeed', 'Shipon Tawakkal' and 'Bin Hamed'.

 Alongside these, Indian Khadi Arjote sarees, Soft Benaroshi Katan, Indian Jamdani, South Indian Organza Shipon, Jaypuri Silk, Monipuri sarees from Sylhet, Gadwal Silk, Tangail soft silk, and Belkuchi sarees from Sirajganj are also favorites among women shoppers. These styles have captured the attention of customers this year due to their vibrant designs and variety.

Imported jeans brands such as, BAGGY, and TOMMY Jeans are top choices of male customers.

Popular Panjabi brands such as 'Sheikh Shadi,' 'Afgani Panjabi', 'Star,' and 'Top 10' are being sold in the city markets.

Business owners of all kinds are extremely busy with last-hours shopping in Khulna city. According to the businessmen, this year, people are shopping with great enthusiasm.

However, the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) have advised the business owners for staying alert to prevent any unwanted incidents due to the heavy crowds in the markets and requested to inform police while borrowing cash money to banks or financial accounts.
