Woman held, four abducted children rescued in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 29, 2025 (BSS) - Police rescued four abducted children and arrested the kidnapper woman Aduri Begum, 40, from the railway station premises in the city's Alamnagar area around 10:45 pm on Friday.

According to Rangpur Metropolitan Police sources, the woman was arrested along with four kidnapped children while roaming suspiciously in the rail station area.

 
The rescued children are Mominul Islam's four-year-old son Ismail, Mokbul Hossain's six-year-old son Rifat, Akhtiful Islam's eight-year-old daughter Ankhti Moni, and Mominur Islam's 12-year-old daughter Minu of Tapodhan area in the city.
 
The arrested Aduri Begum is the wife of Mansur Ali of Fakirer Char village in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram district. She lived in a rented house in the Babupara area adjacent to the railway station in Rangpur.

The police and local sources said that Aduri Begum, claiming to be helpless and in danger, went to a house in Tapodhan village of Ward No. 7 of the city and sought shelter there on Thursday.
 
The guardian of that house, Ashiqul Islam, sheltered the woman. She stayed there at night and ate Sahri. On Friday, she stayed in the house all day and also had Iftar in the evening.

 Sometime after Iftar, the woman went missing with four children from the same area. There was uproar in the area over the matter.
 
After that, the guardians immediately informed the police after not finding the children.

 The matter was immediately reported to various police units, and the police took positions at various points including the railway station and central bus terminal areas.

Later, people at the rail station became suspicious when they saw the woman roaming around with the children at night held her, and informed the police.

Md. Abul Kalam, in charge of Rangpur Railway Police Outpost, said, "We held Aduri Begum along with four children with the help of local people from the rail station and handed over them to Rangpur Metropolitan Police for further legal action."

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Majid confirmed the matter to reporters.

After the woman's health check-up at Rangpur Medical College after midnight on Friday, the police took her into their custody.
 
The rescued children were handed over to their parents.

In this incident, a Maqbul Hossain filed a kidnapping case at Rangpur Metropolitan Haragachh Police Station around 1:30 am on Saturday.

Aduri Begum and several other unidentified people have been named as accused in the case.

"We will produce accused Aduri Begum to a Rangpur court with a five-day remand prayer in the afternoon today," Officer-in-Charge of Metropolitan Haragachh police station Mominul Islam Sohel told BSS at 1:10 pm.
