DINAJPUR, Mar 29, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration has taken extensive preparations to host the country's largest Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at Gor-e-Shahid Boro Eidgah Maidan here in the district.

As part of beautification works, the Maidan has been adorned with vibrant colors to give the congregation a festive ambiance.

It is expected that around 3.5 to 4 lakh devotees will offer Eid prayers at the largest Eidgah this year.

Dinajpur deputy commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam and superintendent of police Md. Marfat Hossain visited the site on Thursday to oversee ongoing works.

DC Rafiqul Islam said the administration had been working since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan to host the largest Eid congregation at the Eidgah Maidan.

The minarets have been renovated, while the surrounding area has undergone a complete facelift, ensuring an inviting atmosphere for the thousands of worshippers expected to gather.

In a bid to ensure the safety and security of attendees, a comprehensive four-tier security system will be in place across the Maidan, said SP Marfat Hossain, adding plainclothes police personnel will be deployed throughout the area.

In addition to the watch tower to monitor security, metal detectors, archways, CCTV cameras will be installed.

Parking facilities will be available at nearby Station Club, Circuit House, Shishu Academy and District Public Library.

Multiple entries are being constructed on four sides at the Eidgah Maidan while it will also feature ablution facilities and mobile toilets for devotees.

On Eid day, in addition to bus services from other upazilas, two special trains have been arranged to facilitate influx of devotees to the Eidgah Maidan.

This largest Eidgah in the country has two towering minarets of 60 feet each on both sides amidst 52 domes of 20 feet each. The height of the main minaret is 55 feet.
 
The height of the arch in which the Khatib will deliver the sermon is 50 feet. The Eidgah minar has been constructed on the west side of the country's largest historical cemetery, Shaheed Maidan. The height of the two gates is 30 feet.
