CHATTOGRAM, March 31, 2025 (BSS) - The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, was celebrated in the port city as elsewhere in the district in a disciplined and peaceful manner amid much festivity and religious fervor.
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), the district administration, Islamic Foundation as well as other religious organization side by side Chattogram Metropolitan and district police took elaborate programmes to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in the city and district in a disciplined and peaceful manner.
Apart from a number of big Eid congregations, more than 230 Eid prayers were held across the city.
Among the biggest ones, two Eid congregations were held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque and Anderkillah Shahi Jame -e-Mosque while two Jamaats were held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque consecutively -one at 8.30 a.m and another one at 8.45 a.m.
A large number of political leaders and social personalities had participated in the congregation at Jamiatul Falah ground that included Liberation War Affairs adviser Faruk-e-Azam Bir Pratik , CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, BNP central Vice Chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, city BNP president Alhaj Ershad Ullah , city Jamaat Islami Ameer Alhaj Shah Jahan Chowdhury, former CCC mayor and JP leader Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Vice Chairman of Board of Governors of East Delta University Sayed Al Noman Turja , former city unit BNP general secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, former BNP south district president Abu Sufian and city unit Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jammat Islami Nazrul Islam.
First Eid congregation at Jamiatul Falah ground was conducted by its main Khatib Moulana Syed A T M Taleb Alauddin Al Quadery while second one was led by the mosque's Pesh Imam Moulana Ahmedul Haque.
However, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury offered his Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in the morning at his ancestral home at Kattali in the city.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury conveyed greetings to countrymen particularly Chittogonians, media workers and government officials and staff.
In a statement, he said it was a matter of great happiness and joy that people of the country particularly the leaders and workers of BNP have been able to enjoy Eid festival in an autocracy-free regime after 17 years.
He also conveyed deep sympathy to the members of bereaved family who lost their near and dear ones in the long struggle to free the country from the clutches of fascist regime.
A special munajat followed by congregation was offered seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country and welfare of the people as well as the Muslim Ummah.
Political leaders, dignitaries as well as devotees seen embraced each other's and exchanged pleasantries that turned the big prayers ground and surrounding areas as a symbol of festivity and social harmony.
Chattogram metropolitan and district police sources said Eid-ul-Fitr jamaats in the city and district were held peacefully.
Besides, the Muslim devotees joined the Eid-ul-Fitr congregations at the mosques and other temporarily marked prayers grounds at all 14 upazila of the district between 8 am and 9 am.
Official sources said improved diets were served among inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu paribars, orphanages and vagabond welfare centres across the district.
After performing Eid congregations, offering munajat at the graves of late parents and close relatives, visiting the residences of friends and relatives and entertaining with traditional and specially made occasional food items other features of the occasion.
