MUNSHIGANJ, April 2, 2025 (BSS) - The 530-year-old traditional Sri Sri Maa Raksha Kali Puja began in Shekhar Nagar of Munshiganj on Tuesday.
Thousands of goddess Kali devotees from all over the country and abroad have gathered.
The traditional Sri Sri Maa Raksha Kali Puja is a special puja of the Hindus.
Kali Puja is usually performed on the new moon day of the Hindu month of month of Kartik, which is usually in October or November. Maa Kali is worshipped as the goddess who protects from crises.
The local Hrishi community has been performing the Sri Sri Maa Raksha Kali Puja in Shekhar Nagar since 901 Bengali to get protection the from bad times and evil forces.
The Kali Puja started on Tuesday.
Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Fatima Tul Jannat visited the Kali Puja mondap and the village fair.
Today, on the second day of Kali Puja, almost a thousand people were offered the traditional Pathabali since morning.
Kali devotees from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal have gathered here on the occasion of Kali Puja.
On the occasion of the Puja, a week-long fair was organized on the premises of the Kali Temple in Shekhar Nagar.
The village fair featured a hundred stalls selling bamboo furniture, baskets, various household items and food and Nagar Dola for children.
Ratan Chandra Das, president of the Puja Celebration Committee at Shekhar Nagar Kali Temple, said every year, thousands of Hindu and Muslim people gather here on the occasion of Kali Puja.
Adequate security measures have been taken to ensure safety and security of all during the puja.
