RANGPUR, April 5, 2025 (BSS) - As a result of special steps taken by the
Highway Police after Eid-ul-Fitr, people of Rangpur Division who came from
Dhaka to celebrate Eid at home are returning to the capital safely and
comfortably.
Talking to BSS, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Highway Police Rangpur
Region Mohammad Tariqul Islam said the 250-kilometer stretch of the Bogura-
Rangpur-Saidpur-Doshmile-Banglabandha highway is free from traffic congestion
and crime this time.
"This has been possible due to the adoption of a special security plan from
April 4 for the passengers of Rangpur division to return to Dhaka in a
traffic-free and safe environment," he said.
Earlier, the Highway Police, with the cooperation of everyone, had made good
arrangements for the safe and traffic-free journey of passengers coming from
Dhaka to Rangpur division before the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
After the Eid, additional patrol and picket duty have been deployed in all
the areas where more passengers get off.
Adequate officers and forces are working day and night in the busiest and
most crowded areas of Doshmile, Saidpur, Taraganj, Paglapeer, Barodorga,
Shothibari, Mithapukur, Palashbari and Gobindaganj along the 250-kilometer
area of the national highway.
The ticket counters for the inter-district and long-route day and night
coaches have been rearranged at all these major stations so that passengers
can board the bus in a very short time and the buses can leave Dhaka
directly.
"I am supervising police duty at every spot," the Highway Police SP said,
adding that he exchanged greetings with passengers in the Gobindaganj Bazar
area and asked them about their problems during their post-Eid journeys last
night.
The armed forces led by the Highway Police were quite active on the highway
to clear traffic jams during this Eid journeys, and the district police also
cooperated.
"Due to the activity of the Highway Police, there were very few accidents
involving motorcycles and other vehicles on the highway in the last three
days following Eid," he said.
Meanwhile, the pressure of vehicles on the highway towards Dhaka has now
increased considerably. The Highway Police is working to ease that pressure.
"A central control room in the Rangpur regional office of the Highway Police
is constantly monitoring passengers and taking steps to resolve traffic jams
as soon as news is received from anywhere," he added.
