KCC projects to play key role in enhancing civic services

KHULNA, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - The Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Md. Firoz Sarkar today said that the collaborative efforts, backed by joint funding from the governments of Germany and Bangladesh, will greatly expedite the development of Khulna city.

The administrators expressed this during a meeting with a delegation from the German Development Bank (KFW) at the GIZ Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban.

"The development projects will play a vital role in ensuring improved civic services for the city dwellers," he said.

The KFW delegation has been in Khulna since Sunday to review the progress and implementation plans for ongoing projects, having also visited several project sites.

Md. Firoz Sarkar underscored the importance of timely completion of these projects, stressing that environmental conservation must be a top priority during their execution.

Key projects under this joint initiative include the development of the KDA Bypass Road, the construction of embankments from Daulatpur to protect the city, installation of sluice gates and pump houses at Alutala and Labanchara, renovation and embankment construction of 23 existing ponds, embankment works along the Nirala and Bastuhara canals and the development of the Rupsha Riverview Park.

KCC chief executive officer(CEO) Laskar Tajul Islam, chief engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, chief revenue officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, chief planning officer Abir ul Jabbar, chief waste management officer and executive magistrate Kohinur Jahan, KFW team leader Dr. Asit Mohanty, representatives Lukas Mars, Peter Rooney and Touhidur Rahman, deputy team leader of the climate change adapted urban development (CCAUD) project Md. Abdul Mannan, procurement specialist engineer Md. Azizur Rahman, senior assistant commissioner of the divisional commissioner's office Md. Amirul Arafat, KCC architect Rezbina Khanam, among others, were present at the meeting.
