KHULNA, April 10, 2025 (BSS) - The National Citizens' Party (NCP) officially launched its activities in Khulna today afternoon through offering prayers to the grave of martyr Sakib Raihan, who sacrificed his life during the July uprising in the capital.
Sheikh Md Sakib Raihan, a student of Baitus Sabuj Madrasha, was gunned down by police in the capital's Rupnagar area on July 19, 2024.
He was buried at the Basupara graveyard cordoned by the law enforcement agencies on July 20.
NCP members gathered at Basupara graveyard in Khulna city this afternoon to pay their respects and formally inaugurate the party's journey.
Azizur Rahman, father of the slain Sakib Raihan, his family members and leaders and activists of the NCP were present there and offered prayers for salvation of the departed soul.
Chaired by the NCP member S. M. Arifur Rahman Mithu, the event was conducted by Sajidul Islam Bappy, central Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
NCP leaders Sajidul Islam Bappy, advocate Maftun Ahmed, Sheikh Tarek, Dr. Rizwaan Ahmed, Hasanur Rahman, Titu Kazi, Md. Monir Hossain, Shahidul Islam Babu, Jasim Khan, Musa Khan, Nayon Chowdhury, Abdur Rahim, Md. Ibrahim, Alim Gazi, Mamun Hossain, Ripon Islam, Rumi Rahman, S. K. Tamanna, Shamim, R. S. Hriday, Saiful Islam, Sanjida Afrin Akhi, Md. Masudur Rahman, Md. Nahid Islam, Arafat Azim and Kawsar Ali Shamim spoke on the occasion.
At the end of the event, several hundred people, including leaders and activists from various groups, joined the NCP inspired by the dream of building a better Bangladesh.
