NATORE, April 11, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the theft of a significant amount of cash and jewelry from the storehouse of the Natore court today.
The cops said the suspects were being interrogated, but declined to disclose their identities to facilitate investigation into the incident.
A gang of thieves broke into the Court Police Office between Thursday evening and early Friday by cutting the window grilles. They then forced open the lock of the storehouse and stole assets that had been stored as evidence, said Natore Court Police Inspector Md. Mostofa Kamal.
The stolen items include approximately Tk 8.9 million in cash, 16 bhoris of gold, and 19 bhoris of silver. The total estimated value of the stolen assets is around Tk 15 million. The gold ornaments alone are estimated at around Tk 2.4 million, with silver valued at about Tk 38,000.
In an effort to cover their tracks, the perpetrators reportedly disabled the entire CCTV system, removing video recorders and severing all surveillance connections.
The theft was discovered around noon on Friday when court officials and police personnel arrived for work and immediately alerted the higher authorities.
Following the incident, Natore Chief Judicial Magistrate Md. Al Amin, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Amjad Hossain, and other officials visited the scene for an initial assessment.
SP Mohammad Amjad Hossain said that law enforcement agencies, including the district police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), are jointly working on the case.
He said that further operations will be conducted based on intelligence gathered during the investigation.
So far, no reports indicate that any official documents were stolen in the incident.
