GAIBANDHA, April 13, 2025 (BSS) - A three-day solo photo exhibition by photographer Kuddus Alam titled "Char and Life" began yesterday at the Poura Park premises in Gaibandha town.
The exhibition, organized by the local voluntary organization Srizansheel Gaibandha with support from Shoe Palace and Fashion Palace, exclusively features over 150 photographs taken by Kuddus Alam, documenting the lives and struggles of people living in the char (Riverine Island) regions of Bangladesh.
Renowned photographer Dr. Shahidul Alam inaugurated the photo exhibition as the chief guest at the Public Library and Club auditorium in the morning.
Srizansheel Gaibandha organizer Abul Hossain Mridha presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Shahidul Alam, also founder of Ekushey Pathshala and South Asian Media Institute, described photography as a form of poetry.
"Photographers are storytellers. They must be present to capture the moment, and through their lenses, they allow us to experience the world," he said.
Kuddus Alam's photographs are powerful visual documents of our time. His lens has captured the rhythm of life along the river, giving voice to communities that are often unseen, Dr. Alam added.
He said photographers played a vital role during the 2024 July uprising.
M. Abdus Salam, executive director of Gana Unnayan Kendra, addressed the programme as the special guest, while noted cultural figure Zahurul Qaiyum moderated it.
